A Question Of Style...

A friend recently said to me, "I love that you don't have style". After a few silent blinks and a punch to his nards I asked him what the eff he meant by that? In retrospect, I probably should've asked first but he's always saying crap that warrants some sort of assault upon his person so my conscience was clear.
Anyhootzle... After wiping away his tears he clarified that he meant to say "A" style. He continued, from a safe distance, to explain that he basically enjoyed the versatility in my art - He has seen a lot more than just what I post here. I was very appreciative and even bought him lunch (okay, maybe I felt a LITTLE guilty about the sack smack). However, the more thought I gave to it the less proud I was. Is it a true talent for versatility or laziness and/or lack of talent to develop a distinct artistic style?
I do see some level of commonality among my art when I'm drawing with a more realistic slant but I'm always in awe of those with an immediately identifiable style, particularly comic book artists. Well, styles I enjoy. I can't help but think taking pride in my knack for mixing it up is just consolation for not having the skills to develop any actual technique.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bellyaching about how tough it is for me. I don't have the passion for art that I did when I was younger so the drive and discipline to learn and grow isn't as present and I could never land - let alone maintain - a gig on comics because drawing architecture gives me rickets and whenever I HAVE to draw something, all of my interest seems to magically dissipate.
Basically, the questions it's taken me four paragraphs of prattle to get to are, Does your art have a specific style? Was it something that came easily to you or was it hard earned? What do you think of style you can identify immediately? Do your favorite artists have a distinct style or do you prefer those a bit all over the map? Style in art, particularly comic books but in any medium, discuss. Or don't. Does anyone read blogs here? This is my first. Eh, if not it was somewhat cathartic, so there's that.
